Painting Project.

after the introduction project (the drawing project) we were then given the theme for our next project (the painting project) which was "interior spaces". Before doing this project I had never heard of the term interior spaces so i found this project challenging but interesting as i thought it was a very particular theme to paint. we had to pick 4 interior spaces which were domestic, industrial, personal and private. I found that during these 4 weeks it took me a while to find all my industrial spaces. I have all my work below to show what i picked for my interior spaces. over all i enjoyed this painting project as I had never done something like this before and especially looking at the 4 different artists which are below the image gallery.

For this project we had to come together with 4 idea sketches of our interior spaces then create 4 quick  a3  paintings then 4 A2 paintings and then make 2 sketch ideas of them combined together then finally creating my final piece. I think through these 4 weeks i found it difficult to produce a big mount of work in 4 weeks but I've learnt that you don't have to make each peace of work perfect and you don't have to spend ages on 1 piece of work to make it "perfect" which is what I always used to think.

Artist Research

For my artist research we picked 4 artists for each domestic, Industrial, Public and Private.

Domestic- Peter De Hooch: This particular artist was known for his genre works of quiet Domestic scenes with open door ways. His work was based in old fashioned rooms from the 17th century  (mainly in the 1650's) or known as "the golden age". I really liked the use colours as it made it seem realised and intense which I thought was very clever because it makes you think out life used to be in the 16th century. All his art work is very detailed but grim looking which indicates to me that the golden  age wasn't so golden.. I decided to pick peter van hooch because of the history and the use of colours.  Here are some links to his work and my favourite pieces which I enjoyed the most:

Industrial- Carol Nelson is originally known as a painter and a mixed media artist. Her favourite genres of art she concentrates on is realism and abstraction. Her work mainly consists of a combination of steam punk, industrial abstraction. I really like the use of colours and how she creates a rustic technique to make it look industrialised. When i look at her work it looks as if she was inspired by industrial buildings and creating similar textures to the actual buildings which is what i find interesting about her work. For my work i would like to look closely at the details and the textures of industrial buildings i would also like to use similar colours as she uses to create a rustic effect. One of my favourite pieces of her work is called "wheels keep on turning", here is a link to some of her industrial work:

Public- Adolph Von Menzel: Menzel was also a realist painter from Germany and is considered one of the two most prominent German artists of the 19th century, and was the most successful artist of his era in Germany. His paintings were set in 1800's and was set in the "industrial revolution" which he was showing the work conditions in the 19th century. He also concentrated on the upper class and showing their lives in the 19th century through his paintings. I think his work is interesting and quite historical as it helps people understand what it was like in the 1800's. Overall I really enjoyed researching this particular artist as it was interesting to look at. Here are some websites to show some of my favourite historical pieces:

Private- Larry Bracegirdle: For my final artist research, I chose Larry Bracegirdle which is well known in Canada, America and the Netherlands. One of his major subject matter is interior, he mostly uses bright colours in his paintings especially orange as he finds it a "comforting colour". The reason for choosing this particular artist was because in most of his work he concentrates on 1 part of the room and using bigger looser strokes with paint brush. This is something similar I would like to do for my painting project. Here are some more links to some of my favourite paintings and his website:
